Clinical Pathways
A clinical pathway is a map of clinical practice for a particular diagnosis. Clinical pathways are also known as critical pathways or care maps. There has been considerable work done in healthcare facilities in developing clinical pathways. First developed and applied to healthcare in the 1980's, clinical pathways have emerged as a popular method of reducing costs while improving quality of care (Pearson, Goulart-Siher & Lee 1995).
